Gunung Belumut

Moderate

Explore Johor’s second highest peak featuring mossy forest trails, scenic checkpoints, and panoramic summit views all just a short journey from Singapore.
Background:

Gunung Belumut is the southernmost peak over 1,000 metres in Peninsular Malaysia. Located in Kluang, Johor, within the lush Hutan Simpan Kluang (Taman Eko Rimba Gunung Belumut), this mountain is named after its mossy, slippery rocks (“berlumut”) and is a favourite among hikers seeking a rewarding day hike close to nature.

The trail begins at the Gunung Belumut Recreational Forest car park in Ulu Dengar, crossing a suspension bridge before entering dense tropical rainforest. Along the way, hikers pass several well-known checkpoints such as Lata Tengkorak, Batu Kerang, and Lara, with scenic forest terrain and gradual elevation gain.

On clear days, hikers are rewarded with sweeping views of Johor’s forested landscape. Challenging yet achievable, Gunung Belumut is an excellent choice for those seeking adventure, elevation, and stunning summit views in southern Malaysia.
